06 – 04 – 2017 First Growth Cru Classé 1855, Médoc Apellation: Margaux

Chateau Margaux is a wine estate of Bordeaux, and one of four wines to achieve Premier cru (first growth) in 1855 Bordeaux classification. It was bought in 1978 by the Mentzelopoulos family.

Historic Vintage:

Former director Mr. Paul PONTALLIER, an agricultural engineer with a doctorate in oenology, joined the Chateau Margaux team. 2009 was a historic vintage for Margaux. In 2015, the château inaugurated a brand new cellar and a vinotheque to house its cellar treasures.

Grape Veritals:

75% of Cabernet Sauvignon, 20 % Merlot, 2% of Cabernet Franc and Petit verdot.

Organic farming:

Since 2012, Chateau Margaux is using organic farming techniques and a large portion of grape are sourced to their second wine: Pavillon Rouge.

Chateau MargauxPavillon blanc 2016 (Pauillac); 94-97 points:

Grape verity: 100% Sauvignon Blanc, 12 hectares of vineyard solely of sauvignon blanc. Located in a very old parcel of the estate and not in “Margaux appellation”. The flavors of the young Pavillon Blanc comprises finesse, complexity, richness, length are outstanding. After 3 – 4 years it’s perfect time to enjoy this wine. The entry on the palate is fresh and fruity, precisely tropical. This white wine continues to improve for many years.

Chateau MargauxPavillon rouge 2016 (Pauillac); 97- 100 points:

Grape verity: 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% merlot, 3% petit verdot. This definitely a long run wine, but also enjoys very young. The flavors of the young Pavillion rouge comprises complexity, depth, silky and long finish on palate. Due to strict grape selection of pavillion rouge enjoys partly organic grapes. Excellent potential to age, one of the finest Bordeaux wines.

Chateau Margaux 2016 Premier Grand Cru Classé (Pauillac); 99 – 100 points:

Grape verity: 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc, 1% petit verdot. Ruby red with violet hue and black fruits like blackcurrants, blackberries and mulberries, lovely and very light hint of mineral and spices. On the palate well structured, elegant, and silky tannins with complexity and fabulous length. chMargaux has an extra ordinary ability to evolve. 2016: iconic vintage for ch Margaux.
