DATE 02-04-2017 Bordeaux En Primeur—the world’s biggest weeklong barrel-tasting event – so far honestly I’m overwhelmed by the vintage 2016, looks a great vintage overall.
Weather: Nature has been kind to Bordeaux this year. Weather indeed is one of the most important factor.
Is a French wine trade term for wine which is sold as a “future” (two years before it’s released) which means before it is bottled. Usually, each chateaux sells a percentage of quantity to serveral Bordeaux based wine merchants known as négociants, who then sell the wines to importers or small individual merchants known as courtier, through restaurants and retailers and finally to the end consumer.
The price factor: It is almost always considersably cheaper than the future price another important factor i.e En Primeur can also be the only way to secure wines that are very limited in quantities – such as some chateaux produce as little as 500 cases a year.
“It is such a special vintage. We have ripe fruit, we have exceptional tannins and then we have so much freshness,” said Olivier Berrouet, director of Château Pétrus in Pomerol.
